ME vs MEMORIES

Be like a tree they say,
Let the dead leaves fall.
But is it that easy to castaway,
Those leaves were once a part of you after all.

Alarms go off when I start getting close,
For I only know that it's still dark inside.
Time stops and my heartbeat slows,
That's where all the demons hide.

They ask me to loosen the burden and feel free,
But what to do with the memories that still haunt me?
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin,
To tame the beast that is raging within.

People say that time will make you strong,
That it will heal all the pain.
But what if people are wrong,
And time is not a boon but a bane.

After all my battle is alone to fight,
With belief my life can once again be bright.
I can control if I let myself drown or soar,
Memories can come and go just like the waves passing the sea shore.
